Textbook Research and Information Centre
 

Textbook Research and Information Centre (Vadoveliu tyrimo ir informacijos centras - VTIC) was established on January 9, 1998. An official opening of the Centre took place on May 15, 1998. The VTIC was established upon the agreement between the Institute of Pedagogics (Lithuania) and Georg Eckert International Textbook Research Institute from Braunchweig (Germany). The activities of this Centre for two years were financed by the Robert Bosch Fund (Germany). From the beginning the year 2000 all activities are financed by the budget of the Institute of Pedagogics (now Educational Development Centre).
 

 
Trends of the VTIC Activities:
  • Accumulate collections of textbooks of geography and social sciences and other training facilities;
  • Collect literature and periodicals that analyse problems of preparing, producing and using these textbooks;
  • Create conditions for all interested persons to make use of the library in the Centre;
  • Investigate textbooks within the block of social sciences from the point of content and form;
  • Give proposals, recommendations for the authors of textbooks, publishing houses and users;
  • Organise seminars for the authors and publishers of textbooks on the issues of preparing and improving educational literature;
  • Investigate the perspectives of computerised training (studying) and functioning of textbooks under new information conditions;
  • Publish a bulletin ("Newsletter", ISSN 1392-5776) on the activities of the VTIC and planned activities and projects.
