Tasks of the Educational Development Centre are: to produce and implement the national curriculum and to offer methodological guidelines for implementation; to provide educational monitoring; to design models for educational development.

Management of the Centre The Centre is governed by the Management Committee and the Directorate which consists of the Director, two Deputy Directors, Senior Accountant and Heads of Divisions. The Centre is self-governed by the Council which consists of seven members elected by the general meeting of Centre staff for a period of two years. Council members are accountable to the general meeting of Centre staff.

Financing The Centre receives its funds from the national budget. The Centre’s annual budget is approved by the Ministry of Education and Science, which is the founder of the Centre. The Centre can obtain funds form sources other than the budget.

Ongoing Activities · 4 committees of experts are working in different subject areas; · learner assessment scheme is under preparation; · consultations for syllabus designers and textbook writers are given; criteria for textbook assessment are being worked out; · sociological research on specialized teaching is being conducted; · action research in bilingual education is being carried out; · participation in the development of the Lithuanian system of educational monitoring; · educational quality indicators are being worked out; · Lithuanian file for the EURYDICE database is updated regularly; · participation in the Befrienders International project “Reaching Young Europe”; project materials are being prepared for publication; a periodical publication for teachers and educational managers is being designed.
